A Spirit Can Ne'er Be Told
"GLOVE traveled to Quetzaltenango, Guatemala in August 2014, with 6 participants. The trip was a success for everyone! The two weeks spent in the department of Quetzaltenango, or otherwise known as Xela, were divided by volunteering equally at a government-owned health center and a NGO rehabilitation center. Some volunteers took one-on-one Spanish classes during weekday afternoons as well.
The trip was full of sight-seeing, diverse activities, good service, and friendship. GLOVE is seeking new and fun ways to make the next trip even better!"

"During our two weeks at Hospital Nacional Dr. Rodolfo Robles, we got the opportunity to help patients and shadow doctors while they performed exams on patients. I gained a lot of insight on how medicine is practiced differently in a less-fortunate country, and how their living and sanitation conditions cause problems that is so easily prevented in the U.S. Although the doctors there work on low salary and limited supplies, they are really friendly and open to explaining the patients’ conditions and asking us engaging questions that expanded our knowledge of medicine. My favorite part was learning to analyze chest X-rays. On top of the medical aspect, we had time to explore Guatemala and I even learned to kayak! This trip taught me some Spanish and showed me so much about a different culture of medicine. My desire to continue helping out other countries has strengthened and I look forward to the next trip with more passionate, like-minded Aggies!"

"The experiences gained through GLOVE are irreplaceable. Volunteering abroad is irreplaceable, especially when doing so with fellow Aggies. My two weeks in Guatemala were some that I still think about daily. I had the opportunity to relate to people from a different and beautiful culture, whether it was a child I helped in physical therapy or a woman visiting the family planning center. The clinical experience was unparalleled, something all aspiring doctors relish over! I also found myself gain a passion for a new language, as well as come back more fluent that I ever thought I could be in Spanish. The entire trip was inspired and difficult to put into words. I hope that the coming year is one that leads GLOVE further in the direction it wants to go. It is only our third year, but the progress made in three years has been amazing to watch. This next trip is going to be the best yet!"
